Privacy Policy
Your reminders stay on your Mac by default. The only exceptions, both described below: the version downloaded directly from this website sends a random device identifier to our license-check backend so we can verify your Pro purchase, and if you enable AI-powered input, the reminder text you’re typing goes to the AI provider you chose. We never see your reminders.
Our approach to privacy
GlassNudge is built on a simple idea: your reminders are yours. They belong on your computer, and nobody else gets access to them. Not us, not anyone. This is the default. There is nothing to configure.
Here is what happens with your data, in plain language.
1. The desktop app: what we collect
Your reminders and settings stay on your Mac. GlassNudge is local-first: your reminders, schedules, and settings live in a local SQLite database on your Mac and never leave it. We have no access to:
- Your reminders or what they say
- Your reminder schedules or snooze habits
- Your quiet hours settings
- Anything else you type into the App
There are two narrow exceptions, both described below: the version downloaded directly from this website performs a license check that sends a random device identifier to our backend, and if you enable AI input, the reminder text you're parsing goes to the AI provider you chose. Neither involves your reminders or any other personal data.
Where your data lives
All your reminder data sits in a local SQLite database on your Mac, inside the App's application support folder. It is never sent to us. Delete the App and its data folder, and it is gone.
License checks (direct download only)
If you download GlassNudge directly from this website, the App verifies your Pro license against a small backend service we operate (hosted on Vercel). On first launch the App creates a random device identifier and stores it in ~/.glassnudge/entitlements.json on your Mac. When the App validates your entitlement (on launch, and when your license status changes), it sends that identifier to our backend so the backend can look up the entitlement for your purchase and return a signed response. The identifier contains no personal information, no reminder content, and nothing else from your Mac. We use it only to verify and restore licenses.
Automatic update checks (direct download only)
The version downloaded directly from this website also checks for updates automatically by querying an update manifest served from the same backend. The Setapp version does neither of these things — licensing and updates come through Setapp (see below).
Setapp version
If you buy GlassNudge as a standalone, one-time purchase on the Setapp marketplace, the App makes no automatic network calls for licensing or updates. Your Pro status is read locally from the Setapp framework's entitlement state for your purchase. Separately, Setapp itself records anonymized usage (for example, that you opened the App) as part of operating the service and sharing revenue with developers; it does not share your personal data with us.
AI features and third-party providers
GlassNudge Pro includes optional AI-powered natural language parsing. It works by sending the reminder text you type to an AI provider's API. You must provide your own API key from a provider of your choice. Here is exactly what happens:
- Only the reminder text you're typing is sent. Your existing reminders, settings, quiet hours, and other personal data are never included.
- It only happens when you submit a reminder in AI mode. No data is sent in the background, and nothing is sent when AI mode is off.
- Your API key stays on your Mac. It is stored locally and only transmitted to the AI provider you selected, over HTTPS, when you submit a reminder. We never see it.
- You can keep everything local. Ollama and LM Studio run models entirely on your Mac. With these providers, no data leaves your machine at all — not even the reminder text. They work offline after the initial model download.
- You pay your provider directly. GlassNudge does not charge for AI features, does not resell API access, and has no business relationship with any AI provider. You are responsible for any costs your provider charges.
- Provider terms apply. Your use of any third-party AI provider is subject to that provider's own terms of service and privacy policy. We recommend reviewing them.
AI features are off by default. You must explicitly configure them in Settings before any data is sent anywhere. See the AI setup guide for more detail.
No accounts, no cloud
GlassNudge does not have user accounts. No sign-up, no login, no cloud sync. You download it and it works.
2. Pro purchases and personal info
When you buy GlassNudge Pro, the payment goes through LemonSqueezy (privacy policy), who acts as the Merchant of Record. LemonSqueezy collects what they need to complete the payment: your email, card details, that kind of thing. We never see your full card number.
LemonSqueezy tells us your email address and purchase status so we can verify your Pro license. That email address is the only personal information we ever receive about you. We use it strictly for license checks. No marketing, no newsletters, nothing else.
We keep that email only as long as needed for your Pro license. It sits in our license database (Neon Postgres, hosted through Vercel). There is no separate marketing list.
3. The website (glassnudge.app)
Vercel Web Analytics
The website uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages get traffic. It collects anonymous, aggregate stats:
- Page views and where visitors came from
- Browser type and device type
- Country-level location (from IP, not GPS)
No cookies. No cross-site tracking. No personal profiles.
Opting out of analytics
You can turn off analytics tracking by clicking the opt-out link at the top of this page (next to the date) or in the website footer. It sets a localStorage flag in your browser and stops the analytics script from loading.
4. Third-party services
GlassNudge uses these services. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Vercel hosts the website and a small backend API that checks Pro license validity. Vercel may keep standard server logs.
- LemonSqueezy (privacy policy) handles payments and licenses for direct purchases, and acts as the Merchant of Record.
- Setapp (MacPaw) (privacy notice) distributes GlassNudge as a standalone marketplace purchase and handles the transaction. If you buy GlassNudge through Setapp, MacPaw is the data controller for your Setapp account and billing data, and its Privacy Notice governs that processing. Setapp does not share your personal data with us; we receive only anonymized usage analytics used to calculate revenue. Anything you do inside the App itself is governed by this policy.
- GitHub (privacy policy) serves the .dmg download through GitHub Releases. GitHub may log download requests as part of their normal operation.
5. Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA)
GlassNudge is made by a solo developer in Ontario, Canada. Since we collect email addresses for Pro purchases, Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) applies. We follow it.
Under PIPEDA, we are responsible for the personal information we hold. The developer is the person accountable for privacy. Reach them at the email below.
If you buy GlassNudge through Setapp, MacPaw processes your Setapp account and billing data, including under the GDPR/UK GDPR for users in the EU/EEA and the UK. Our PIPEDA responsibilities cover only the data we hold ourselves — for direct purchases from this website, that is the device identifier used for license checks, and your email if you bought Pro.
6. Your data rights
Under PIPEDA, you can:
- Access what we have on you (your email, if you bought Pro, and the device identifier used for license checks).
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your info from our license database. Heads up: if we delete your Pro record, we cannot verify your license anymore, so your Pro features will revert to Free. Your reminders are not affected.
- Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you think your rights were violated.
To exercise any of these, email contact@glassnudge.app. We will reply within 30 days. No charge unless the request is excessive or clearly unfounded.
7. Children
GlassNudge is not made for kids under 13. We do not knowingly collect info from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this page. The latest version is always here with the date. Big changes will be called out on the website.
9. Contact
GlassNudge is a one-person project. Questions about privacy or data rights? Email contact@glassnudge.app.
